Covid-19 Testing and Screening in Austin Can Rule Out The Flu

As we approach flu season while fighting the Coronavirus, it is essential to understand the differences between influenza (the flu) and COVID-19 symptoms, and to get tested if you have symptoms.

While testing is critical to rule out COVID-19 symptoms that may resemble flu symptoms, there are CDC guidelines that outline the similarities and differences between Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19.

The CDC recommends testing because it is hard to tell the difference between the flu and COVID-19 based on symptoms alone, and testing is needed to help confirm a diagnosis.

Here are the CDC Guidelines:

"Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2), and flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses. Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis. Flu and COVID-19 share many characteristics, but there are some key differences between the two."

While more is learned every day, there is still a lot that is unknown about COVID-19 and the virus that causes it. To compare COVID-19 and flu, given the best available information from the CDC to date, CLICK HERE.

COVID-19 Screening Service:

Safeguard Your Employees and Your Business During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The CDC has recommended employers conduct COVID-19 screening, including temperature checks for workers. This step is already in place for many healthcare workers. Employers in other industries who are keeping their operations open are adopting similar COVID-19 screening practices. Typically, this occurs at the start of shifts as employees report to work and allow the employer to identify anyone exhibiting symptoms and proactively send them home to avoid the virus's possible spread on the employer's premises.
